Call to Ministry
Justified before the Father through grace, sanctified by Christ through his atoning work on the cross, moving toward completion by the perfecting grace of the Holy Spirit, I am called to the office of pastoral servant leader. I was encouraged to explore a vocation in Christian service as a second career by many (clergy and lay) because of my involvement in local church leadership and lay speaking. I once had a mystical experience when I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Ted, I anoint you to preach the gospel in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

I began my vocation as Missions Coordinator at a new church start because of my passion for evangelism. I am led to fulfill my call by dedicating the remainder of my life to the word, order, sacrament, and service of The United Methodist Church.

Leadership Style
Effective administration assures that what is done in the name of Christ is “done decently and in order” (1 Cor. 14). This is best accomplished by clear roles, expectations, and commitment. A model for visioning taught by Rev. Dr. John Savage uses a three-fold model that considers 1) Vision (a broad survey of what could be accomplished), 2) Rational (strategy and steps to take), and 3) Criticism (identifying potential problems and pitfalls).

Leadership is servanthood that establishes trust and confidence. My personal style values the contributions of all, seeks collaboration, and promotes consensus.

Teaching/Faith Formation
The Bible and the study of faith is an essential part of holistic Christian discipleship. To seriously engage God with one’s mind is to answer God’s call to become the body of Christ and—often in small group settings—to be available to others in support and care. A servant pastor is responsible to teach and train, as well as to equip and encourage others to uncover their spiritual gifts.
